Haze over India

Haze continued to cloud the skies south of the Himalaya in mid-January 2008, continuing a pattern of thick haze from earlier in the month. The MODIS flying on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image on January 15.

In this image, the haze appears as a dull gray blur that hugs the Himalaya and extends southward into India and particularly Bangladesh. The skies are not completely hazy, however. Areas of clear sky appear in the north (over the mountains), and in the southwest and southeast. In the east, clouds mingle with the haze.
