This image, captured on February 15, 2008 by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite, shows Tropical Cyclone Ivan approaching Madagascar. Madagascar is a large island off the eastern coast of southern Africa.

The Cyclone did a great deal of damage in Madagascar. The category four storm collided with the northeastern coast on February 18th with winds measured at more than 125 mph per hour. Ivan traveled across Madagascar as a category three storm, causing problems with flooding. Eleven deaths were reported, nine of them due to a collapsed hotel.

Ivan is due to make landfall next in Mozambique, Africa. Though Ivan was downgraded to a tropical storm, Mozambique has already had severe problems with flooding from several weeks of heavy rain.
