This MERIS (MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) image shows southern Norway. Towards the right of the image at the top of the Oslofjorden is the country's capital, Oslo. Visible are Norway's many thousands of glacial lakes. The largest of these, Lake Mjosa, is situated just north of Oslo. Despite it being July snow can be seen covering the mountains of the Jotunheim range. This range includes the country's and Scandinavia's highest point, Galdhopiggen, at 2,469 m. On the western coastline of the country we can see Norway's numerous fjords, the deepest of these being Sognafjorden, also the longest in Norway, extending inland for over 204 km. In southwestern Norway is the city and port of Stavanger, hub of Norway's petroleum industry.
