Encroaching spring green vegetation contrasts against a late snow storm in the northeastern United States and Canada in this true-color April 29, 2005, image from the Aqua MODIS instrument. At lower left, Lake Ontario is a deep sapphire blue surrounded by brown and green state of New York and province of Quebec. The St. Lawrence River valley is a light tan ribbon stretching northeast toward where the river widens until it eventually leads into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. At lower right, the Atlantic is a similar deep sapphire blue, with faint green clouds off the shore of Maine and New Brunswick (Canada).
