Town North Bank Tops $269,000 in Scholarship Awards

Town North Bank, located in Dallas, topped $269,000 in scholarship awards after announcing the 2008 Mayors' Scholarship recipients. Six Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District seniors will receive $4,000 each. They are Nicole Schero and McKenzie Goad, Creekview High School; Freddie Bangs and Jacqueline Negrete, Newman Smith High School; and Elmer Herrera and Taylor Rahm, R. L. Turner High School. The students were selected as Mayors' Scholarship recipients because of their ability to achieve and their commitment to purpose. The bank began the scholarship program in 1991 in honor of the mayors of Farmers Branch and Carrollton. This year, the bank honored the mayors of Farmers Branch and Carrollton by presenting $24,000 in scholarships.
Dr. Annette T. Griffin, superintendent of schools, said, "Town North Bank continues to champion the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District and public education. We appreciate very much the bank's continued support of our district and public education. These scholarships are opening the next phase of learning of these outstanding students college."
John Reap, Town North Bank president, said, "The bank's Board of Directors made this commitment to these students because of our belief in public education and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District. The scholarships that we present to these six students are investments in the future of our community."
Since the bank initiated the Mayors' Scholarship program in 1991, 90 student scholarships have been presented totaling $269,000. Town North Bank is also a major contributor to the CarrolltonFarmers Branch ISD Educational Foundation; the bank was one of the foundation's first donors. Reap served as its chairman for two years; Cinda Bowers, the bank's senior vice president/director of marketing, has served as the foundation's chairman. Nan Fuller, the bank's executive vice president, is on the Board of Directors.
Earlier in the year, Town North Bank received the Crystal Award in the Texas Business Partnership Category for a Medium Business from the Texas Association of Partners in Education. The award is the highest award presented by TAPE for a business's involvement in public school system.
