The Geneva school board took care of some loose ends for its high school, new middle schools and elementary schools Monday night.
School board members unanimously approved Monday evening the partial tear down of Geneva High School's bus depot on McKinley Avenue for parking.
The $179,581 project will be completed Sept. 1, and will provide 54 new spaces, which will probably be designated as staff parking, Assistant Superintendent Rebecca J. Allard said. Additional landscaping for the lot will cost $33,000, and is yet to be bid.
The board also approved the sale of the property once slated to be the entrance to the new middle school campus.
Krista A. Williams and Brigette L. Ramm's bid of $416,000 for property at 37W617 Kaneville Road - $1,000 more than the district's minimum asking price. The land was put up for sale last week after a better location was found.
Superintendent Michael Jacoby presented possible names for the schools being constructed: Geneva Middle School North and Middle School South. The school's campus would be called the Geneva Middle School Campus. The board will rule on the names Aug. 8.
For two elementary schools, Allard received approval from to screen candidates for two positions which may be needed if all anticipated students enroll.
With maximum enrollment for anticipated students, there will be an average of 26.67 students in first grade classes at Harrison Street. Allard wants the option of hiring another teacher, taking the average to 20. Kindergarten classes at Heartland Elementary school will see class sizes of 26.5 students unless another teacher is added, taking the average to 17.67.
Jacoby also told the board that the district is seeking an interim and permanent replacement for Western Avenue Elementary School's principal Robert Stachura, who died June 27 in an accident.
