The mother of a toddler who vanished in Portugal during a family vacation has been named a suspect in the girl's disappearance, it was reported.
Kate McCann, 39, was questioned by police for 11 hours Thursday in Portimao, near where her daughter, Madeleine, disappeared May 3 from a vacation apartment in Praia da Luz, The Times of London reported Friday.
McCann, who was accompanied by her lawyer, was to be questioned again Friday, The Times reported. The only other suspect identified so far is Robert Murat, 33, who lives 150 yards from where Madeleine disappeared.
McCann's husband, Gerry, was to be questioned Friday as a witness. Both parents have denied any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance.
Police didn't say why they consider Kate McCann a suspect nor did they reveal details of new forensic tests taken from the missing girl's bedroom.
Kate McCann spoke briefly with reporters Thursday saying, We came to Portugal an ordinary family of five. We just want to know what happened on May 3 and want to be able to go home one family, reunited.
