Washington Wants Tougher Iran Sanctions

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday Iran won't stop its nuclear program as U.S. officials demanded more international sanctions on Tehran.
The enemies are seeking to prevent us from using peaceful nuclear technology, not for scientific reasons but because they want to eradicate the roots of the Islamic Republic, Ahmadinejad said on Iranian Press TV.
Therefore if we stop even for a moment, they will achieve their aims, the Iranian president told a group of Revolutionary Guards commanders.
The United States and other nations suspect Iran's nuclear program is aimed at producing a nuclear bomb, although Tehran has said it wants to generate electric power.
On Wednesday, a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency indicated that Iran had continued to accelerate its nuclear program, prompting Washington to call for tougher international sanctions against Iran.
The pressure so far has not produced the results that we all have been hoping for, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Zalmay Khalilzad told The Washington Post.
He said the time has come to ratchet up the pressure to bring about a change in Iranian calculation.
