Clinton: 'Mistake' to Vote for McCain

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton said Wednesday it would be a mistake for her supporters to vote for Republican John McCain.

The New York senator said if she is not the nominee her supporters should back Democrat Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois.

Anybody who has ever voted for me or voted for Barack has much more in common in terms of what we want to see happen in our country and in the world with the other than they do with John McCain, Clinton said in an appearance on CNN.

I'm going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is -- obviously I'm still hoping to be that nominee, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me ... understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Senator Obama, she said.

Clinton's comments come after exit polls following West Virginia's presidential primary Tuesday indicate only 36 percent of Clinton's supporters would vote for Obama if he were he the Democratic nominee.

Clinton also said on CNN that despite her campaign being more than $20 million in the red, she plans to keep running for the Democratic nomination.

I'm not going anywhere except to Kentucky and Oregon and Montana and South Dakota and Puerto Rico, she said, referring to the states with upcoming nominating contests.
