Firefighters in central Florida faced another windy day Monday as they grappled with wildfires that threatened homes.
Forecasts called for gusty winds at more than 20 miles per hour and humidity around 22 percent. A red-flag warning was posted in the area.
We know it is going to be hard to handle, state forestry spokesman Rick Strang told The Miami Herald.
About 66 fires were burning along the so-called Space Coast of Florida as of Sunday night. They had consumed nearly 15,000 acres and forced the evacuation of dozens of homes, mainly in the Daytona Beach and Orlando areas.
The Orlando Sentinel said Monday that parts of Interstate 95 and Highway 1 in Volusia County had to be shut down overnight.
