NASA Technologies and Exploration to Be Focus of Space Enterprise Forum at Hannover Fairs's ISCe 2005
Posted on: Thursday, 21 April 2005, 15:00 CDT
Hannover Fairs USA, Inc., today announced that, as part of ISCe 2005, the Space Enterprise Forum will focus on the future of NASA technologies and exploration, and how NASA intends to accomplish its goals. Through partnerships with private U.S. industries, it is anticipated that the joint efforts will create a synergy that will result in cutting edge, yet affordable, technologies of great benefit for both private industry and NASA.
The three sessions on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, will bring together industry leaders tasked with developing new opportunities and technologies in unique NASA-private industry partnerships. Co-sponsored by the NASA Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center (RTTC) and the California Space Authority (CSA), the Space Enterprise Forum Track promises to be informative and exciting as attendees listen to NASA and private industry leaders discuss their visions and goals, and how they will achieve them.
"The California Space Authority, NASA Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center and Hannover Fairs organizers have teamed up to ensure ISCe attendees the 'inside track' on NASA opportunities in technology development and exploration," said The Honorable Andrea Seastrand, Executive Director, California Space Authority. "We want all space stakeholders -- entrepreneurs, small business, suppliers and primes -- to learn something new."
"Both NASA Ames and Jet Propulsion Laboratory are powerhouses of autonomous systems and telecommunications technology development," said Ken Dozier, Executive Director - NASA Far West Regional Technology Transfer Center and Moderator of Key NASA Technology Opportunities: Autonomy and IT, Space Communication. "We are glad to be able to showcase these NASA capabilities at ISCe."
Speakers at Mr. Dozier's session include Dr. Stephen M. Lichten, Deputy Manager, Telecommunications Division, JPL, and Ben Smith, Manager, Autonomous Systems Program, JPL. They will explore how JPL and NASA Ames are looking to join forces to partner with U.S. industry, academia, and other organizations to develop technology needs in telecommunications, space craft autonomy and IT, thereby acquiring key technologies that are critical to achieving its vision. One of the biggest challenges for space exploration is affordability, and such partnerships could be crucial to success. Kicking off this session will be an exclusive High Definition presentation that depicts the launch, landing and rollout of one of the Mars exploration rovers.
Capt. Michael Hecker, NASA Associate Administrator for Exploration System will speak on the NASA Space Exploration Vision: Status and Opportunities. The new NASA Vision, announced by President George Bush in January of 2004, described a building block strategy of human and robotic missions beginning with the return to flight of the Space Shuttle, completion of the ISS, return to the moon by 2020 and finally, exploration of Mars and beyond. Capt. Hecker will give the status of the Vision and describe near-term and mid-term milestones still to be met. This session will also feature description of the potential opportunities, both for U.S. companies and international space stakeholders, inherent in NASA's Vision for Space Exploration.
Peter Hadinger, Director of Communications Initiatives - Northrop Grumman Space Technology, will moderate Next Generation Space Communications (SC) Technologies: NASA's Space Communications Project. This session will look at solutions to achieve the SC project's development of innovative products to provide end-to-end information delivery solutions and enable next generation communication architectures beyond 2010. Panelists include John Rush, Navigation and Communication Systems Architecture Manager - NASA Office of Space Flight; Scott Rayder, Chief of Staff - NOAA; and Paul Mellon, Senior Capture Manager, Project Constellation Programs - L-3 Communication Systems East.
