Software Developer to Visit ISS

A software pioneer and aviator from the United States has booked passage to visit the International Space Station next year.

Charles Simonyi, founder of Bellevue, Wash.-based Intentional Software Corp. and a former Microsoft director of application development, will reach the ISS in a flight offered by Space Adventures, the space experiences company said.

During his eight-day stay at the space station, Hungarian-born Simonyi will assist several international space agencies by conducting experiments, Space Adventures said. As part of his mission prep, Simonyi will training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia. He will ride aboard the Soyuz TMA-10 with two cosmonauts.

Besides assisting in space station research activities, Simonyi said hoped to help advance civilian space travel and involve young people in the science of space travel, Space Adventures said.
