SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A lineman for the San Francisco 49ers NFL team collapsed and died following a game against the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco Chronicle said on its Web site on Sunday.
Thomas Herrion, 23, collapsed in the locker room after the pre-season game and was given immediate emergency medical treatment before being taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital, the newspaper reported.
There was no immediate word on the cause of death. Herrion signed with the team in January, the newspaper said.
"This is a colossal tragedy for the 49ers and the entire NFL community. We still do not know all of the details. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Herrion family," the team said in a statement, according to the newspaper.
