Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page has been arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in upstate New York, police said.
The Toronto Globe and Mail reported Wednesday that Page and two women were arrested last week after police allegedly found cocaine and marijuana in an apartment where they were in Fayetteville, N.Y., near Syracuse, while officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked outside.
Things seemed out of sorts, Capt. Bill Bleyle of the Manlius Police Department told the newspaper. And (police) determined that on the table they had what appeared to be powdered cocaine.
The substance allegedly was later confirmed through a field test to be cocaine.
Page was released on $10,000 bail and is due back in court Thursday.
Terry McBride of Nettwerk Management, which represents Page's Canadian rock band, declined to say much about the singer's arrest.
But we are confident that our client Steven will be completely exonerated, McBride told the Globe and Mail. Until that time, it's business as usual for the Barenaked Ladies.
